The order matters more than the speed
I thought I had to do everything at once. In reality one thing depends on the other: without registering your address there is no tax number; without a tax number the business registration becomes laborious; without health insurance several offices are missing a document.
What I lacked was a list in the right order. With it you wait in one place instead of four. And answer every letter, even the ones you do not fully understand — deadlines keep running whether you replied or not.
Your experience counts for more than you think
Six years of hosting guests is training, certificate or not. For a long time I believed only paperwork counted here. What actually counts is that you know how a business runs on a busy Saturday.
So say it that way. Not "I worked in Thailand", but what you ran, cooked, planned or sold, and for how long. That is the sentence that turns an applicant into a professional — and on a website, an offer into a person.
Becoming visible takes longer than opening
The shop was open and still hardly anyone came. Not because something was missing, but because nobody knew we existed. In Thailand the first guests walked past and came in. Here they search online first — and if you are not there, you do not exist for them.
Two things helped more than anything else at the start: a complete Google entry with real opening hours and photos, and a site of your own that states the price and offers a way to enquire. After that, word of mouth starts working by itself.
